Arietha Lockhart
I have applied to be a member of the Georgia Council of the Arts Teaching Artist Roster. My background is as an Elementary General Music Specialist and Choral Director. I was a public school educator in the DeKalb County Schools for 30 years. I have also sung in and appeared as soloist with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. I earned my Master’s Degree and Education Specialist Degree in Music Education at the University of Alabama and the University of Georgia I also earned certification in Gifted and Leadership. My roles in DeKalb County Schools also included teacher leadership and mentoring new teachers. My Educator Bio is included below :
Former DeKalb Schools Music Specialist K-5, Director of Choruses at Redan, Medlock and Smokerise, Directed Teachers’ Chorus at Redan, Medlock and the DeKalb Music Teachers Leadership Chorus, Past Chair for DeKalb Elementary Honor Chorus (prepared rehearsal materials) Soloist for DeKalb New Teacher Orientation, Educator, Professional Vocalist, Arietha Lockhart, Soprano, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Choruses, Robert Shaw Chamber Singers and Festival Singers, Carnegie Hall Workshop Choirs, 1996 Centennial Olympics Opening Ceremony, Vocal Soloist, Annual Commemoration Service for Martin Luther King, frequent chorus member and soloist, Winner of Vocal Competitions and Awards. Member of Music Teachers National Association, American Orff Schulwerk Association, Organization of American Kodaly Educators, National Association of Music Educators, Member Opera America, Member National Association of Arts and Sciences (Grammy Awards) Choral Clinician and past conductor of Elementary Honor Chorus for Newton County Schools. She has worked with both children’s and adult choruses as guest clinician particularly in preparation for new works and large group auditions.

Choral Training Instructor for the Atlanta Young Singers
As the Music Instructor for the AYS East Training Program location I provide weekly small group instruction to AYS members at the Porter Sanford Center for the Arts. Students in this program are 7-11 years old and are grouped into two levels: Introduction to Music Making (7-8 yr olds) and Training Choir (9-11 yr olds). At the AYS-East location, the two groups rehearse together for the duration of the 1.5 hour instruction period. The AYS East students then are combined with students in other rehearsal locations for performances.
Choral Clinician
I have worked with professional chorus, Collegium Vocale preparing works for their upcoming season 2014 and DeKalb Elementary School of the arts students judging mock auditions 2015 and have been Honor Chorus Festival Chair and Clinician for the Newton Co. Schools. I served as Honor Chorus Chairperson for the DeKalb Elementary Honor Chorus Festival in 1990 and as a Clinician led the Newton County Honor Chorus Festival in 2000.
